2. Updates
Microsoft has released a new update for Skype? Before moving on, there are two ways to install Skype. You if installed it from the Windows Store, you can check the updates section to see if it’s available. If so, update it immediately.
If you installed the Skype app directly from the official website, you will either have to launch the app if prompted to update, or you can go back and download Skype again. That’s why it’s better to download from the Windows Store if it doesn’t give you a hassle.
3. Network connection and troubleshooting
Check your internet and Wi-Fi connection and make sure it works. Skype video calls can consume a significant amount of traffic and require a high-speed Internet connection to work without delays. The only thing you can do is visit the Speedtest website and check your download and upload speeds. You can also connect your smartphone or another device to your Wi-Fi network and check if it is working properly. This way you will know if the problem is with Wi-Fi or with your laptop/computer on which you can use Skype.
Your Windows 10 computer comes with a network troubleshooter that checks your network connection and checks it for various errors. If you have any reason to believe that there is something wrong with your network connection, search for the network troubleshooter in Windows Search and run it. If an error is found, follow the instructions on the screen. You can also visit Microsoft’s help page, which explains in detail why Skype cannot detect the webcam on Windows 10.

When you uninstall an application, leftover files are left on your system and may be damaged. To remove them before reinstalling a new copy of Skype, press Ctrl + R to open the Run window and type “% appdata%” without quotes before pressing Enter.

5. Web camera permissions
You did everything right and gave the app the necessary permissions to use the camera, but you still see the “Device not found” error in Skype. It may be that the settings failed to register the change due to some kind of error. To check, press the Windows + I keys on your keyboard to launch Settings and select Privacy here.
Select Camera from the left pane of the window and scroll a little to find a list of all apps that have permission to use the camera. Find Skype here and make sure it’s turned on.
Check if the camera works in Skype on Windows 10.
6. Skype Cam settings
Apart from Windows 10 settings, each app comes with its own settings and Skype is no different. Launch Skype and press the menu button to open the settings.

7. Webcam drivers
The webcam on your Windows 10 computer is a hardware device that needs drivers to connect and work with Skype and other applications that use it. Are you using the latest drivers? Are they corrupt? To find and install the update, open Device Manager and find the webcam installed on your computer. This should usually be in the Imaging Devices section. Double click to open it and right click the camera hardware to update the drivers.
After that, restart your Windows 10 computer to check if the Skype camera works again or not.
8. Run the troubleshooter
Windows 10 has a troubleshooter that will look for errors and other problems that are bothering your computer and recommend the necessary solutions for them. Find Troubleshoot in Windows Search, open it in Settings. There are many troubleshooting options, but I am using Windows Store apps as I installed Skype from there and as mentioned earlier this is a known issue.
Follow the instructions on the screen if you find an error. You can try other troubleshooters depending on your hardware and software configuration. Check if Skype can now detect the webcam or if it still doesn’t work.
9. Compatibility with the webcam
Unlike Apple’s Macs, Windows computers come in a variety of configurations that include a variety of processors, webcams, audio devices, and RAM from manufacturers. How do you know if the webcam installed on your system is compatible with Skype or not?
Luckily, someone at Ubuntu has compiled a list of all known webcam computer models that are compatible with Skype. Review the list and note that even if your list is not there, it is possible that the list is not updated or is incomplete.

Resetting Skype is a much better option than, say, formatting or resetting Windows 10. The latter will remove all applications, software, and data stored on your computer, leaving you with a blank canvas. Making backups and reinstalling everything can be challenging. To reset Skype, press the Windows + I keys on your keyboard and select Applications.
Select Apps & features and find Skype in the list. when you do, click on it once to open the more options button.
Scroll a little to find two options. One is repair and the other is reset. I would suggest using the repair option first and see if it decides the camera isn’t working with the Skype issue. If that doesn’t work, choose the reset option, which will erase all settings and data from your computer.
When you log in again, it will download fresh files and data from the internet. This will clean up any corrupted files and create new ones.
